George Brown is the former Executive Director of the State Bar of Wisconsin.

Prior to joining the State Bar staff in November 1986, George served as the chief aide to the Assembly co-chairman of the Wisconsin State Legislature’s Joint Committee on Finance, which oversees all revenues and expenditures for the State of Wisconsin, including biennial budget.
As Public Affairs Director from 1986 until 1997, George served as chief lobbyist and public relations director for the State Bar, lobbying the state legislature and the U.S. Congress on hundreds of pieces of legislation.

A former chairperson of the National Association of Bar Executives (NABE) Communications Section, former Secretary of NABE and currently a member of NABE, National Conference of Bar Presidents (NCBP), and American Bar Association (ABA) conferences on a wide variety of association management, governance, and communications issues.

In 1997, George joined Wisconsin’s second largest law firm as a contract lobbyist, representing national corporations and statewide associations before the Wisconsin legislature and state agencies. George rejoined the State Bar of Wisconsin in 1998 as Associate Executive Director, a position he held until his appointment as Executive Director in May 2000.

George and his wife, Nancy, a high school English and Reading teacher, live in Madison, Wisconsin. They have two adult children.
